100 Men Reading Program "Letters To Our Fathers"
To continue our support of the Assault On Illiteracy Program, we have composed a book of letters about our experiences with our fathers or an influential male figure from our childhoods. The book is intended to inspire young men and women in the community.
Particularly, we want to encourage the youth to achieve personal and academic success. Hopefully, this book will engage students who may not be traditional readers and will motivate them to read other narrative or biographical works of literature. As Maya Angelou states, “Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.” We sincerely believe that Letters To Our Fathers will provide a pathway for young people to follow toward positive, personal rewards through reading.
You will find that the body of letters written in this text reflects the various styles and temperaments of the individual authors. Some authors chose to write about individual episodes from their childhoods; therefore, the writing is lush and descriptive. Some chose to write a general letter of appreciation; therefore, the writing is cryptic and sometimes clapped. And, in some of the letters, you will find a style that is free-flowing, almost testimonial, in which the authors abandon convention for substance.
We, the Men of The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. – Kappa Rho Chapter hope that you find joy and insight in reading Letters To Our Fathers.
